Profile:  "Cuptivation" at the NEC

How could you turn a hastily grabbed coffee into a wildflower meadow? Designplus took the answer to this question, plus more student concepts to the Easyfairs Packaging Innovations Show last week at the NEC.

The show was another exciting opportunity for Designplus to meet interesting and interested people, this time from the packaging industry.

Designplus brought seven students’ responses to a Marks and Spencer collaborative project brief, and asked visitors and other exhibitors at the Packaging Innovations Show to vote for their favourite. A great deal of interest was expressed in all of the students’ work, and the concept which captured the most imaginations (and therefore the most votes!) was Eleanor Dent’s “Cuptivate” – a concept designed to leave an eco-friendly legacy from your daily caffeine fix.

Over 100 Brunel Design first year students responded to the brief “Buy it whilst you can – a product with a Plan A twist”. Plan A is the M&S drive for combating climate change, reducing waste, using sustainable raw materials, trading ethically, and helping customers to lead healthier lifestyles. Students were tasked with developing a low-cost eco-product, to tie in with the messages of Plan A and drive impulse purchasing from M&S customers.
